| 2/11 The day started at 8:30 am. That is when they allow us back in the picu. Amanda was confused, incoherent, and continuing to complain of pain. Her breathing was still requiring oxygen and her fevers were starting again. By 10:30am Amanda was complaining of pain and needing to go to the bathroom. Mike was trying to calm her and noticed some blood in her diaper, within an hour the bleeding was much larger and the pain greater. The doctors were all concerned and ran a bunch of labs and started giving her a blood transfusion. Around 2:00pm they scoped Amanda and took biopsies. The doctors saw some blood but no active bleeding. Her ng tube is still putting out blood and now her foley has blood in it so they are giving her another blood transfusion and monitoring her bleeding. 4:00pm Amanda's breathing continues to be difficult so they did another chest x-ray which showed that her lung had alot of fluid and was not inflated all the way so the doctors decided to put in a chest tube and let the fluid drain by gravity. The procedure was done and the following x-ray looked good. 6:00 pm Amanda is complaining of pain and not be able to breath she and grunting heavily. The doctors make the decision to put her back on the ventilator because she is in distress. Today was not a good day for Amanda, the poor thing her body has been through the ringer and her mind just can't understand. For us it was an unbelievably emotional and trying day seeing your child suffer and knowing things are not right but don't know what to do. Our hearts truly broke today but we will start again tomorrow to help Amanda through her day. Sorry we didn't have happier news. Thanks for all your thoughts. love the buddemeyer family |
